About the National Airline Policy Campaign
Airlines for America (A4A), the industry trade organization for leading U.S. airlines, is promoting a National Airline Policy to highlight the industry’s integral role in our national economy. A4A airline members and their affiliates transport more than 90 percent of all U.S. airline passenger and cargo traffic.
The mission of A4A’s campaign is to educate and encourage passengers, airline employees, communities, businesses and shippers, and investors to urge the federal government to support a comprehensive National Airline Policy. There is clear precedent for federal policy action and inaction. In the 1970s, U.S. policymakers helped revitalize our railroads while they neglected the maritime industry, leading to its demise.
Three federal airline industry commissions have provided policy blueprints, which have been incorporated into the five pillars of the National Airline Policy. A set of strong and cohesive policies would enable the industry to increase air service across the nation, which would result in higher economic growth, expanded exports and more high-paying U.S. jobs.
