A strong, healthy and globally competitive U.S. airline industry is vital for America. It is vital for our economic growth, our communities, our infrastructure and the traveling public. We need a legislative, regulatory and tax environment that supports it. That is why America needs a National Airline Policy.

SUPPORT THE PILLARS

A comprehensive National Airline Policy is good for passengers, airline employees, communities, businesses and shippers, and investors. Tell Congress you support a National Airline Policy that enables the U.S. airline industry to boost economic growth, create more high-paying U.S. jobs and expand exports. Check all of the policies you support.

Taxes and fees amount to about 20 percent of a typical $300 roundtrip domestic ticket. Reducing the taxes and fees we pay on airfare would help keep ticket prices affordable and expand travel and service options.

The scope and acceleration of federal rules largely don’t address root problems and lead to unintended costs. Rationalizing air travel regulations would keep air travel safe, eliminate unnecessary costs, improve flight efficiencies, and enable investment in new aircraft and service to more destinations.

Implementing NextGen, the new air-traffic-control system that offers better traffic management, would save air travelers and businesses billions of dollars by reducing flight delays, missed connections and cancellations. NextGen would also improve travel experiences and environmental performance.

Governments of foreign airlines are passing favorable policies so that their airlines can grow and compete in the United States. But only domestic airlines can connect smaller and rural communities to larger U.S. markets and international gateways. Policies that enhance the U.S. airline industry’s global competitiveness would allow our domestic carriers to maintain service to smaller communities and invest in new aircraft.

Fuel is the single largest cost for airlines – and the most volatile. Excessive oil speculation creates economic uncertainty for airlines, businesses and the traveling public. Stabilizing energy prices and curbing excessive oil speculation would lessen that economic uncertainty and encourage investments in alternative fuels.
